Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us in 33 A.D. how to die nobly on the Cross!
Our Native Americans, in Maryland or Virginia, did not know exactly “who” we were, unless they receive the “Word” from runners who reported back from the Caribbean or Florida, let’s say.
Think back please to the Alamo, in San Antonio, Texas!
Those were heroes who answered the “Call”. Davy Crockett comes to my mind as does the Bowie Knife!
Yes, let’s think about our encampment. The men coming back inside for the Saftey!
Custards’s Last Stand!
Who is going out there to certain death, for the “Mission”?
Yes, we need an endless supply of “Leaders”, you are 100% correct CDR Salamander!
We needed them at the time of Noah’s Ark!
We needed Leaders, our Apostles, Saint Andrew for example, who went to Russia, returned and used his knowledge and skill to build our Greek Orthodox Church!
Yes, Islam came and Our Holy Virgin Protected us!
Yes, our American People here before any Caucasian touched one toe on USA American soil, knew how to ask the precious Land to guard us and give us the nourishment we need!
Classic Education, a must in our American Schools, Colleges and Universities!
CDR Salamander, let’s hold more classes, like this one.
I’ll help! I’m a Registered Nurse skilled to use binoculars… did this morning 0848…lone man dressed with a cap and dark clothes, a back pack in a kayak bent over searching for “What” in our shallow waters of Herring Bay?
I’ll say “Drugs” out there at night when I was having a fitful rest.
All hands on deck now please!
Carry out the Plan of the Day!
Nurse Jane lights the way … is a good leader and needs good people to help her. Thank you!
A classical education is necessary but not sufficient for a soldier or sailor
All the Ivy League policy makers who led us into Afghanistan and Iraq could probably read Thucydides in the original Greek but they got lost along the way.
When I purchased my Encyclopedia Britannica set it came with the 60 volume set of the Great Books of the Western World . . . most were required reeding for completing a classical education. We should return to that model. The country was Blessed With Success when we did so.
They are just LAZY. Princeton is not longer the MECA of higher education. The Ivy League is very rapidly turning into the Pariah Pool from which you DO NOT want to hire.
Ah yes, no matter the topic the inevitable descent into the daily hard on about the Ivy schools, the mythical unified "left" and the mention of either Clinton or Biden on alternate days.
Xenophon's Anabasis is worth reading as a piece of classic literature on its own merits. But it seems to have also inspired Alexander the Great's military campaigns and leadership strategy in convincing him to attack Iran/Persia and Afghanistan. Perhaps Xenophon was the original "smartest person in the room". Quis custodiet ipsos custodes
(Yes, like many I was sent to a boy's prep school to receive a classical education and the ability to leave pithy Latin phrases as needed for any topic at hand.)
The left is no myth. They seem themselves akin to Plato’s guardians who rule because they understand the Forms unlike us poor peasants. The Ivy Leagues are the modern version of Plato’s academy.
I could use other examples besides Slick Willie and the dotard if you like.
I prefer your Navy knowledge, which is considerable. rather than low-rent aspersions on your singular dislike for anyone to the left of Attila the Hun. No need for further examples from your extended chronicle of blame assessment of perceived liberal mischief. On the other hand, I typically enjoy your snark.
It has always struck me how many military legends are based on epic retreats (Anabasis, Frozen Chosin, Germans extracting themselves from the Caucasus, the Long March) or heroic last stands to buy time (Thermopylae, the Alamo, Stalingrad for both sides, Bataan). In other words, defeats.
History is Redundant.

HiStory cycles and the frequency increases and the amplitude goes up. We have almost reached the CRESCENDO!!!
Isn't the real lesson don't agree to help install a foreigner on someone else's throne?
Next on my reading list, thank you!!
I read it as a junior sailor years ago, perhaps it is time to revisit it.
"Start me with ten who are stout-hearted men, and I'll soon give you ten thousand more." (Credit to Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II)
Harold Coyle and John Ringo based novels upon this. Perhaps it's time to read the original.
loved The Last Centurion
Stephen Pressfield references Xenophon often.
My first exposure to the story was the 1979 movie The Warriors based on Sol Yurick's novel.
A classic indeed. And thank you for sharing. I am went to my study and pulled it out again to re-read.
I read: The Anabasis of Cyrus

Sic Transit Gloria Mundi
Do they still read anything prior to Saul Alinsky (Marx excepted of course) at the Ivy's?
They read It Takes a Village by Hillary Clinton.
Which version, Pete? The one in the original printing? The graphic novel (komix)? The colouring book?
I think General Milley would prefer the coloring book.
Safe bet that he'd be eating the crayons too.
Enjoyed it. As in sports, those who worry about injury are usually injured; those who don’t, play on.

But the leftists shouted Hey Hey Western Civ Has Got To GO.
At Princeton Classics Majors are no longer required to learn Greek and Latin. Just too hard.

The Ivy League provide bling degrees.

Glad to make you happy.
I always considered the pagan Attila to be a leftist keenly interested in urban renewal
