I voted for a vertical sweep of the sword from top to bottom. And recall senior officers involved in Ford delays or Little Crappy Ships. Embarrass them and send them home.
That was meant for both, HMSLion and Jim Tecson, what the hello Dolly are you two squids talking about...my head is starting to hurt now, are you two happy?
"...deliberate purge of expertise from our military that is eroding..." . . . OH MY GOODNESS . . . the "Magically Shrinking Fleet" and material condition of the fleet with TOO SMALL a CVN force that is not serving National Defense in the past, or able to support the Department of War in the future... is a problem IMHO!
Concerning 'Audience Appropriate' material in any form (not just print in the library) is becoming hugely problematic after the "DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA' that Rush talked about so eloquently for so long. Now we see those DUMBED DOWN in action destroying people/places/things as if it were a Right?! Yes we have problems. These people respect no one including themselves because of lack of understanding base values and principles . . . for they were NEVER TAUGHT!
Like it or not, we are responsible to the elected leadership. There was a long period with a degree of consensus of our society that enabled an apolitical military. That very definitely ended in 2008, and many of us were blind to it. I probably was.
If the US military is to retain the confidence of a broad majority of Americans, we must maintain ourselves in a fashion that is responsive to the leadership and the legitimate legal power base. We’re seeing that now.
Our job is to be synonymous with the American flag. I very much am not in favor of aligning with groups who find patriotism immoral, as it cuts us off from our recruiting base, and alienates us from our heritage.
Exactly. I hadn’t come to that wording, but it has fantastic implications. My duty is to carry out lawful orders, especially if I disagree with them.
If my commanding officer can relieve me for loss of confidence, so can the President for Flag Officers and permanent civil service.
As a matter of fundamental understanding, the Oval Office is George Washington’s, so what would he do is the standard for any President. And he did not shy away from firing commanders.
Yes, it’s a purge. If the President or his intoxicated and incompetent SECDEF doesn’t have confidence in an officer because of their race or sex, then the President needs to be “purged”. It will be coming with his 3rd impeachment after the midterms.
Should we judge Trump by what he says, or what he does?
His notion that he can plan the economy with executive-branch taxes, and taking collective ownership of formerly private companies is classic socialism.
Don't worry!!! Scientists and doctors are working night and day on a cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome. Alway remember and don't give up. There is hope for a cure.
The cure is to impeach the most corrupt President in our history. These posts are just being a shameless shill for this President and his cabinet. I mean junk drawer. None of these political posts have to do with improving our navy or our readiness. If CDR Sal wants to be in politics, he should run for office.
We have 1st Amendment rights? Is that really true? I am an American and my 1st Amendment right is being violated everyday by the unconstitutional republican&democrat PARTY.
You see, according to my 1st Amendment rights...I have freedom of association, but I don't have freedom from the government backed democrat&republican PARTY association.
There are over 500,000 elected offices in America and 99.25% are occupied by the republican&democrat PARTY.
Every congressional district in America is occupied by the democrat&republican PARTY, and there is not even one American congressional district in America.
Every level of government, federal, state, county, and local government is occupied by the republican&democrat PARTY.
All three branches of our federal government is occupied by the democrat&republican PARTY.
Please tell me why is it legal for the republican&democrat PARTY association to violate my 1st Amendment right to "freedom from association?"
I guess when it comes to Americans we don't have "rights" because the republican&democrat PARTY association said so.
Isn't that right democrat&republican PARTY supreme court?

LT NEMO, It is NOT about JOINING or NOT joining the republican&democrat PARTY.
It is about the democrat&republican PARTY forcing their association on an American Citizen.
All Americans have "freedom of speech" and "freedom from speech." The government cannot force speech upon any American Citizen, and who runs the government...the republican&democrat PARTY.
All Americans have "freedom of religion" and "freedom from religion." The government cannot force religion upon any American Citizen, and who runs the government...the democrat&republican PARTY.
All Americans have "freedom of association" and "freedom from association." The government cannot force associations upon any American Citizen, and who runs the government...the republican&democrat PARTY/associations.
The democrat&republican Party/association occupied government cannot force the republican&democrat PARTY/associations on any American, because it is a violation of All American's 1st amendment Right, "freedom from association."
I am an American and I am being forced to live under the tyranny of the democrat&republican PARTY/association.
There are over 500,000 elected offices in America and 99.25% are occupied by the republican&democrat PARTY.

In a America where Americans are free from the two-party associations the American voting ballot will be...fill in the blank, and you can vote for a vice president too. This will be very difficult for the association voters...because there will no long be names or any d's and r's on the ballot.

While we are talking about a putative purge let's have a discussion about what we know about the splurge that began in the Clinton era and seemed to continue in the Obama era that culminated in Biden picking Rachel Leland Levine for a 4 star Admiral slot because he/him had magic pronouns. No, this isn't a purge, it is a course correction. Let's call it an "unequitizing", a cleanup on aisle 5.
Small world. I served with Admiral Zumwalt's son aboard a DDG in 1968. Me an RD2 and him a LTjg. Poor guy was chronically sea sick. He later transferred to the Brown Water Navy where he was exposed to Agent Orange. He later died of cancer due to that exposure. ADM Zumwalt was our youngest CNO and had promoted ahead of many seniors. Love him or hate him, he did some good things. He got rid of the Chicken Sh_t regs, got us huge pay raises, got us the OHP Frigates. It was my observation at the time, then an E-6, that the negative grumblings at the deck plate level were coming from the old timer's who were wailing about the ruination of the Navy because of the relaxation of haircut and beard rules and the doing away with Liberty Cards. Many of those guys just rolled over and died because Zumwalt had taken away their leadership tools. Which he hadn't. The old timers simply couldn't/wouldn't roll with the new zeitgeist. Flawed or not, Zumwalt was a godsend IMO.
---------------------------------
Edit.
Small world. ADM Zulwalt was XO of USS Zellars (DD-777) in 1946-48. My older brother, an RD2, served aboard USS Zellars 1967-1969.
I was just about to go on active duty then, but saw it all happen.
Must say, we high school kids who worked in the NASP Enlisted Galley sure did think the beer machines were a positive!
But there was way too much of throwing the baby out with the bathwater in Zumwalt's haste.
I will opine that he greatly exacerbated the race problems by giving a vocal minority way too much of a voice.
It set up a proto George Floyd crisis.
To be fair though, there was more than a little proto "malicious compliance" perpetrated by the aggrieved Old Salts too.
I would argue that things zagged unchecked too far off course during Zumwalt's tenure, and it wasnt until Adm. Hayward's tenure that a better balance was restored.
(FYI, never thought I would live long enough to be "that" guy!)
Can't disagree, Sid. Just as some of the old salts rolled over and died, many took advantage of the largesse and pushed the envelope too far. The early and mid 70s was an ugly time for race relations in the Navy. Saw some of the worst of it aboard a CVA. But I wouldn't fault Zumwalt overmuch. A lot of that was because of that "proto 'malicious compliance' perpetrated by the aggrieved Old Salts". They had had their AU-THOR-I-TAY stolen from them and had given up. I saw it in the Chief's mess.
Fast forward to today, and just look at the obstruction the 'Old Salts" in DC are doing against Hegseth. It borders on the mutinous, and is magnitudes worse than what happened in the early 70's.
Primarily because this resistance is being conducted by senior officers.
Being generally the brownest person in Southern schools -unsegregated, and then schools schools in the throes of desegregation- I always found being "on base" was a haven from racial ugliness on a very direct personal level.
I appreciate your perspective, but Zumwalt ...in retrospect...could have managed 'Change' more adroitly and avoided this kind of Ugly from those days...
"During the Vietnam War, San Francisco sailors formed the “Stop Our Ship” movement in protest against their ships’ anticipated return to Southeast Asia. Protest efforts included petitioning Congress, a guerrilla attack on the USS Hancock, as well as a march for peace led by sailors of the USS Coral Sea. This anti-war movement is notable for how it was made up so significantly by active duty servicemen; in fact, attaining civilian support was one of the biggest challenges they faced. This article appeared in the Good Times Newspaper Collective, the primary underground newspaper of San Francisco during the late sixties and early seventies."
Thanks, Sid. Memories bubbled up reading your post. That CVA I was on was USS Hancock. I remember my early service and the "FTN movement", not as organized or virulent as the SOS movement mentioned. We had a serial arsonist aboard USS Hancock. He was an FTN-er. He torched the post office, the forward starboard side fueling station, a 5"/38 handling room and a berthing compartment while I was doing a 100 day tour as an MAA section leader while my equipment was ashore being overhauled in Alameda and I was at loose ends. I was there on duty for 3 of those fires and was pressed into service to fight 1 of them...me, a twidgit (EW). What did I know? The CDO directed me to help with a fire hose as I was early at the scene...no OBA. I crawled away from that hacking my lungs out. Lord, I hated that MAA job...being in contact the most fractious and froward elements of the crew. If not for getting selected for Chief which got me a transfer to Hawaii and back to a Frigate, I had planned to get out of the Navy at the end of that tour. That was an ugly time, the lowest spot in my career. But I still treasure my time in the Navy. So many good people, a sense of purpose, the mission. Good friends. Opportunities. Eventually, they sent me to staff duty at CPF as (A)EWO, let me drive an OHP FFG for 4 years and be a CICO on an Aegis CG. I love my Navy.
Amen, at some point a culling of non-needed jobs, not just flag jobs either, has to be done. This is a military institution whose own paid consultants and the CBO have said repeatedly is staffed with at least 200-330k of soldiers whose jobs are really civilian. At the top are some (not all) folks whom are either very "non-extraordinary" gutless types who wouldn't stick their neck out to save their dog let alone subordinates or what they feel is right. The only thing I hate is that Hegseth is not doing a swap out of civilian "welfare" jobs out of the 700-800k civi jobs in the D Dept, get rid of 200k civi jobs and then designating say 200k of those fake soldier jobs to replace them (basically civi budget stays the same) and increases the combat power by putting 200k soldiers back into revived units, like manning older ships till they really are not usable, increasing shipyard maintenance personnel (alot), manning many more fighter/tanker/logistic squadrons, Army combat units. Beauty is the equipment is already out there, paid for. And these flag jobs could have been over some of these revived units, but know what? How many of these folks are actually capable of handling them? That's the magic question, and sadly I'd have to guess a good % of them are just flat out worthless hacks.
They are only worthless hacks when they they live and work in some other congressional district. When your town loses out on a new military facility or a base is closed, the local elected officials seldom are heard to say that their town lost out because they were worthless hacks.
If the names are known of the offending USNA profs who are demanding midshipmen cite their pronouns, has the brand new Supe and/or the Academic Dean done anything to (1) order them to cease and desist in their harassing behavior, or failing that, (2) take steps to remove them from the teaching faculty? I realize the latter may present legal complications but in my humble opinion there is no excuse for permitting this sort of ridiculous conduct to continue.
Of Welsh ancestry myself. GFYS is "Ewch i ffwcio'ch hun", I think. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, though.
I had a Marine NFO LT call me "Gunner" once. Flattering, but I would never claim that as a "pronoun". I don't have the gravitas nor am I that stupid. Marine Gunners are demi-Gods.
I would argue that Hegseth has not been nearly aggressive enough in removing flags who oppose the president’s policies.
Unless those bottles of whiskey keep coming in...the purge will continue.
#drinkingethos
"Just..... think of all the good the purge does for society, honey".

hahaha...damn right I can count to foured.
Good to Go Buddy. I was a Marine, we can always swim back to the boat LOL
You an suck up to trump as hard as ABC is doing, but it's the end of your deal with me, cancelling today; you're tedious.
And we should care why, exactly?
In those immortal words from cinema, "Lighten up, Francis" (and good riddance).
I prefer the classics: “Oh no! Anyway …”
Absolutely--Clarkson's expression is also pitch perfect.
Don't let the doorknob hit you.
Ah, no. I've seen it done at the squadron level with a new CO and at the corporate level when a new C-suite person does it.
You either support a new direction/vision/alignment/business plan or you don't.
BTW, Kimmel it was after a major affiliate with dozens of stations shut down kimmel.
I like Trump better than Bush Sr, Jr, Obama, Biden and Tyler Robinson LOL.
This is a good argument for less flag officers and more boat drivers.
More please.
Long time. Be well.

If this is a purge, the Trump administration is sure as hell not doing it right.
Nobody has accused Trump of being competent.

No one talks about the wholesale purge of Flags and O-6's that Zumwalt pulled off.

They are only worthless hacks when they they live and work in some other congressional district. When your town loses out on a new military facility or a base is closed, the local elected officials seldom are heard to say that their town lost out because they were worthless hacks.
This is no purge. A proper purge would equate to NKVD/Gestapo/Red Guards tactics.
What the DOD is experiencing is severe constipation with occasional flatulence.
Mine is Chief
Mine is GFYS...
(Its Welsh...)
;-)
Of Welsh ancestry myself. GFYS is "Ewch i ffwcio'ch hun", I think. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, though.
I had a Marine NFO LT call me "Gunner" once. Flattering, but I would never claim that as a "pronoun". I don't have the gravitas nor am I that stupid. Marine Gunners are demi-Gods.
LOL!
To be honest...
My pronoun is 'Welsh' in the same vein that this Latin...
