Have you been waiting for more substantial push back by Congress about the Navy's self-deluding happy talk, their iffy deployment numbers, and sleepwalking in to disaster should war come?

Do you see the disconnect between warfighting requirements west of Wake and the looming VLS cell issues in the Davidson Window?

Are you concerned that not enough people - even in 2022 - see the Terrible 20s headwind?

Behold from today's HASC hearing on FY23 Navy Budget.

Mr. Secretary, your FY23 Navy Budget Book paints a rosy picture… that does not match reality.

UPDATE: Fellow FloridaMan Rep. Waltz (R-FL) also brings the big charts ... and he owes friend-to-the-blog Matthew Hipple for it too.

I noticed the clever use of “underway” v. “deployed” by Secretary Del Toro at the end. All of us here know the difference. Very few people with an office on the E ring want a bright light light shined in their direction, and the Navy has been playing fast and loose with budget and capability numbers for way too long. Bad data leads inevitably to false conclusions.

Well, if the MCMs in Sasebo are deployed when they are training wirh ROKN sister ships in Chin-hae——and also deployed when they're in dry dock——well, I'm going to have to go find some of those carrier sailors and tell them 18 months is okay, but but a real deployment is three consecutive years, and I actually was closer to four.

Thanks for the assist, Admiral!
