I throw in that all predictions are being affected by some known knowns, some unknown knowns, and some known unknowns. Three years of strong media manipulation, political posturing and kowtowing by our military, congress, Hollywood paid stooges, and Biden's entire executive branch, and the international interference in the course of that war has made the real picture murky. It was enjoined by a U.S. populace that largely couldn't have found Ukraine on a map a week before, but now is sure they are being told the entire story.

Remember back in the day when Congress was going to start sending gobs of our hard-earned tax dollars to Ukraine to refight the "Cold War" (that they were so against when it really existed)? Remember when all our friends in Congress refused to have ANY audit trail on that money at all and every week sent more and more, and even insulted our freezing Appalachian citizens by kicking them out of hotels on Christmas because Uncle Sugar was out of money, but we still found more money to send to Ukraine? Remember the endless parade of grinning congresspeople making pilgrimages to a supposed war zone, dressed for the office, and paying homage to the guy in the green sweater? (Remember the only people he ever put on a suit for too?) Remember Sam Bankman Fried being rounded up for his Bitcoin shenanigans, laundering mega money through Ukraine back to the DNC? I suspect we are about to be told some jarring truths unearthed by DOGE's guys in the green eye shades about where all that money we sent really went. Even little Zelensky has publicly admitted he has no idea where more than half of that $175+ billion we sent him is. Gosh, guys! Who knew crooks were in charge??? And remember in the early days when Little Z wanted a peace treaty with Russia to stop the carnage and Boris Johnson stomped in and let him know in no uncertain terms the money machine... I mean the fight for democracy WILL not end? Yeah. And those laundered dollars we sent to Ukraine to set up and run biochemical labs on Russia's border the sort of which we would NEVER tolerate from Mexico? (Labs that dealt with all sorts of icky stuff we aren't allowed to play with in our own country because of international treaties.) Throw that into the mix. None of this is what the journalists (also paid by laundered USAID money, no doubt) told everyone it was.

Trump is a pragmatist who knows we cannot afford to stay on the side of a war that has made us legally armed combatants and opened us to legitimate retaliation. He also knows our treasury cannot sustain this crap or we will cease to exist as a nation, and what good are we then to ourselves and the rest of the needy, grubby, begging world? Also, he's not a war pig. (By the way, where were all our international friends with their blankets and goods and assistance to our devastated communities in Ohio, Hawaii, California, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina this last year? Or is that just a one-way street?) Trump undoubtedly has the big and true picture of what has really been going on in Ukraine, and ALL the players involved who stupidly tried to use that mess to bring him down. (When you aim at the king, best not to miss. Sucks to be them, I'd say.) Trump will cut U.S. losses, and try to claw back as much wasted capital from the region with agreements with Ukraine and Russia to reimburse for our role as guarantors of some sort of peace agreement. Little Z has stupidly reneged on any such deal a few too many times for his own good, making him a non-player in any negotiations.

As for little Z, his days are numbered. His role as the paragon of DEMOCRATIC VALUES is shot through with the (what number is it?) time he has refused to hold real elections there, his allowing the persecution and massacre of Christians, and his role as the (temporary) bagman for his Dollar/Euro laundromat to the oligarchs and political leaders around the world. He at once knows too much and too little. Neat trick. His usefulness to the bigger players is at an end, and I suspect he will become very accident prone in months to come. Sucks to be him. He played both ends against the middle and we know what happens to those guys.

Putin has actually looked out for his own people much more carefully than Biden or Little Z ever did. That has gained him political capital. He doesn't want this economy draining, population draining nonsense to go on. And only he knows what dirt his intel guys have on every other player on the board... NATO, US leadership, of course his minions have Ukraine infiltrated completely. Information is power. He will settle for a peace that gives him what he originally wanted.... Russia's port and certain Crimean areas, a promise that we should have honored for our own credibility to not put NATO on his border, and maybe even some trade deals with the USA to start a process that should have commenced in 1993 to rewrite the global dynamic. Russia doesn't want MORE land, it just wants its near abroad not to be a threat in any way and when they do Russia will stomp them back into quietude.

That's my prediction. And U.S. citizens are in for a rude awakening, methinks, when they follow the money on all of this, and we find out who was lying and how much they personally pocketed to keep misery, death and destruction going on for years for millions of innocent people.

Excellent piece. Thank you for the comprehensive review and evaluation of the fighting parties (including demographics!), tiebacks to similar conflicts in history, and well-grounded possibilities and limitations that will likely shape the future of the conflict. The only thing missing, for obvious reasons, is the section on "Lessons Learned."
