Just take a moment to consider the mass of senior leadership present inside a commute distance of DC. The amount of money they have access to. The amount of direct control they can exert through official levers of power and simply a phone call.
Look how they live.
Now ponder how our most junior sailors have been treated.
This situation recalls to my mind a line, probably fictional but eminently realistic, by the the chair of the Bligh inquiry in 1962's Mutiny On The Bounty (Brando, Howard, Harris, Griffith): "Justice and decency are carried in the heart of the Captain or they be not aboard." This, of course, is the case for any organization. In war-making organizations, justice and decency require that that the Captain win the war early and fully or not come back alive. POTUS, of course, is the Captain of every USA war-making organization.
WTF? Since when is frickin' BETHESDA a hardship post?
