I can hardly believe that I just read a Diversity Thursday with good news!!! Thanks for that. Not to be too much of a curmudgeon, but it would be well to keep in mind that the entire White House/DOD establishment is firmly committed to enforcing DEI wherever they can, including our military. I suspect that no advice to the contrary, however well based or factual will dissuade them from their goals.

Firing them will separate them from their goals.

And there's a quick shortcut to firing that should be used ruthlessly. Nearly every person in DoD: military, civilian, contractor, needs at least a secret clearance. Any clearance is a matter of the trust placed in that individual by the government. If they are not trustworthy, stop trusting them. Revoke clearances and the firing part is automatic.

“Meh” doesn't conflate with your bold post, Billy, but you got my attention. Have wondered myself about the Johnsonian years 1964-65, but never wondered out loud. Who wants to be a lightning rod? All that legislation seemed like a good idea at the time. Maybe all that could have been capped after 50 years or based on results.

I'd take a 50 year cap, basing it on results would lead to shifting goal posts. Too many people getting too much money & power keeps the grift going.

The collective spines of our leaders (I'm looking at you SECNAV)have softened in recent years but many young warriors have largely shrugged it off. They didn't join the Navy to renew their library cards and read BLM/DEI/CRt/Global warming nonsense. They want to learn, grow, and fight. It's the leaders that need a little stiffness in their backbones. Stand up and lead, people.

The rot is already deep in the DoD HR systems. I posted this a few months ago, but it goes directly to the Anti-meritocracy leadership we have now:

"Diversity among leadership dropped after photos were removed last year from Navy promotion packages", Vice Adm. John Nowell said during a panel discussion on diversity and inclusion at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space conference

“I think we should consider reinstating photos in selection boards,” he said. “We look at, for instance, the one-star board over the last five years, and we can show you where, as you look at diversity, it went down with photos removed.”

I was born a blond hair, blue-eyed straight White male in 1948. Never thought about it but if there was some template for success the gods of Olympus used to pick winners and losers maybe I had an inside track. Prior to 1974 the Navy promoted sailors to Chief Petty Officer based on an accumulation of points derived from time in service, time in rate, performance mark average, medals & awards and your score on the advancement examination. Add all that up and if your total was above the cut-off score, you got promoted. I always thought that fair...pretty meritocratic. First time up for Chief I was a former RD1 newly converted to EW1, had 8 years in and had done the math. Based on past cut-off scores for RDC I'd calculated that I could have aced the test for EWC and not have enough points to promote. OK, fair enough. But I wasn't paying enough attention to current events, that they'd switched to a selection board for CPO rather than using the old point system. Imagine my surprise at getting picked for the #2 slot of 72 new EWC's. (It was a new rating, and they were promoting every thing with a pulse.) I thought that meritocratic. Why wouldn't I? Seemed pretty damn inclusive and equitable to me. Further, just the year before there had been some one-time Navy survey wherein we stated what our race was. That survey was shortly after a horrid UPWARD seminar that left me sour. I declared that I was Black. That survey was supposed to be anonymous, but who believes that? I thought afterward that perhaps my promotion was a diversity thing. Didn't feel good about that. But being #2 on the list of 72 with 8 years in sort of took the edge off being a quota pick. Or maybe it didn't. The EW rating was about 99% straight White male in 1974. Maybe they thought I was the 1%. Later when I applied for OCS(once...attended for 4 days as an E-8...long story for another day), CWO(once) and LDO(thrice) there were pictures attached to the application. There was also a picture of us officers at selection boards too. I like to think my good fortune was due to merit, but then I think about the time in which I served. Born in 1948, I was a senior Boomer wallowing in White privilege. I am kind of rambling, I know. But I had to work up the gumption to say that I am sorry that I screwed some guy out of the promotion to EWC back in 1974. If I'd died in the Gulf War and had been reincarnated, I am fairly sure I'd be topping out at EW1(SW) in 2028. (Actually, CTT1 because the purple-suited wannabe NSA cryppies ate my rating in the 90s. And wouldn't that have been some poetic justice?)

What will end Diversity, CRT and gay/trans in the military is a good old bloody war where as in early WW2 the Old Peace time Military was suddenly thrust into a long fighting retreat and a long fighting battle to win.

What is not needed to fight will be shed like an old snake skin.

But, it may just be the beginning that spells our end till reason and abject reality catches up.

Being on a battlefield is no place to argue Pronouns with your Sgt or wearing dresses when you are a man.

The troops involved will take action.

every decision by every combat leader has the likelihood to put somebody at higher risk. 'Diverse' groups' are more vulnerable to fragmenting over perceived biased decisions.

Those who pull their weight and fight will be accepted as any other military fighter.

A President DeSantis needs to fire about 80% of the SES Corps, half the flags, and then deep select the most based and serious replacements possible. Only then can they team up to excise the DIE tumor.

President Trump did literally this, with an executive order that DoD through all levels of civilian control and military command roundly ignored.

Think of it as a pendulum that never comes to rest at bottom dead center. It is easy for someone, group or individual, to push the pendulum in their desired direction. But they can't hold it in the place they like because many others are pushing in different directions.

If there are laws of social motion, they might (or might not) be similar to the laws of physical motion. A new push won't show a resulting change immediately. We might not be able to predict the direction or displacement of the next swing, but . . . the pendulum will swing.

There are 195,000 civilians versus 343,000 active duty USN. - They all have to justify their existence. If we don't cull those numbers and immediately kill politically motivated initiatives like DEI they will simply find a new cause du jour.

Equity (if defined as equal opportunity) and "inclusion" (defined as developing teams and organizations staffed by the people best suited to achieve the mission goals) are outcomes of a system that aims to ensure that every person can realize their potential. One way to do the is to recognize the power of "cognitive diversity." Cognitive Diversity is the different ways in which individuals see and categorize the world, solve problems and make predictions. It is not to be confused with the Identity Diversity that is the sole focus of the DEI zealots. A personʻs skin color, gender, sexual orientation, religion or other easily distinguished traits have nothing to do with a personʻs ability to contribute to the organizationʻs success.

Focusing on DEI and looking to create equity (defined as the right mix of various identities in a group or team) by force fitting people into job slots is counter-productive and demeaning to anyone who has achieved individual success through their own merit. The present CRT/DEI focus is ill conceived unless the true intention is to destroy society.

It's sad that it often has to come down to a red vs. blue state issue (GA is definitely a bit of a change of late from earlier times) but somebody has to lay down the reality law. It's horrifying that we could drive good people out of the military under the guise of equity while boosting someone whom at best is a pawn in a scheme. I see it everyday in corporate America, with newly made up positions spouting out the garbage, every hiring statement at the end of a job using all the newly minted words (like they'd say they follow the Ku Klux Klan hiring practice or we are owned by a Lily White person, let's get real) such as we strive for diversity inclusion blah blah. I shudder to think too how many candidates are not hired because they are not a convenient demographic for this time and age. I think once the great blunder leaves the ultimate masquerade position (we won't mention his name), we can get back to running a country and for that matter let someone like a Desantis run it and hopefully work on things in the military like aligning a better tooth to tail, having strategy match procurement, winning a drawn out long war without running out of weapons, attack headcount issues and aligning how to squeeze out more to attack maintenance, etc., rather than how many more equity classes to force on the masses and how many promotions based on x, y and z were made...
