Glad to hear the fat crook was rolled up. There must be several more lurking out there not only in the Navy but the other branches as well. Corruption is as corrosive to morale as DEI. Here's to Navy ships and boats being kept in Bristol fashion.

Expand full comment

Agree, though I've not read of any Navy or DOD effort to see if Fat Leonard was the Tip of the Iceberg. Too many Admirals/Generals may be put at risk.

Expand full comment

Good point. Interesting to see several Russian generals getting rolled up for corruption directly related to SMO, though hard to know what the full story is given Russian opaqueness.

Expand full comment

Russia has a history of dealing with corruption, making it dangerous for those corrupt officials to stay above the 1st floor in buildings. Or, they just disappear.

I'm feeling good about this. Can we get a rider in the FY26 Defense Appropriations bill to shut down DEOMI?

Also, no more 'special observances' notices for the Plan of the Day/Week/Month. Those are like the Havel's sign in the window for the DEI bullies.

The question remains as to whether the NATO free riders, which are mostly in Western Europe, will step up in response to Trump's win or whether they will continue to hope for the free ride. I believe they will go for the free ride. Germany is continuing to deindustrialize, France is internally muddled and Britain under a Labor government will cut defense spending from where it currently is. Only the NATO countries east of Germany are taking their commitments seriously. How long before this fractures NATO? And should we support the formation of and Eastern European / Baltic alliance to take its place?

Expand full comment

Britain is planning on no longer having a deployable division. Sadly, they have been lost.

Expand full comment

I have feeling Trump will make common cause with Eastern European & Scandinavian allies & together with them sneer and troll the Western Europeans.

The meltdowns in Europe today show they are a lost cause (leadership not the people). Last year when in Barrow & up North from there they all understand they have failed to step up. Not that they don’t want to just that the Tories have been shit in doing so. Which led to Starmer and the labor hell they are in now.

They have capacity but zero political or national treasury will to turn it on. AKUSUS will help but it’s going to take a long time to smooth out the workshare.

Expand full comment

I am not so much bothered by the lack of defense spending as by the question of whether Europe is worth defending. Europe seems to be becoming more authoritarian over the last couple of decades. In GB a man was convicted of silently praying outside an abortion clinic, the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal, etc.. Even the second newest NATO bastion of freedom, Finland, recently tried an ex-government minister for posting a bible verse on the internet. Another decade or so and the only difference between Europe and the oppressive dictatorship to its East will be the language of the rulers.

Expand full comment

"I am not so much bothered by the lack of defense spending ..."

The billions getting spent now should not be spent on corrupt boondoggles like the LCS, the Zumwalt, and the F-35.

I think that the attacks on Jews in the Netherlands and the blatant meddling be the Labor government in our election make it clear that Europe isn't worth defending.

Back in 2016, right after his first win, Trump attended Army-Navy football game. This year, that annual event will kickoff on Dec 13 in Baltimore, at M&T Stadium... Expect the same visit by the president-elect. No doubt, Trump will expect to see sharp cadets, and to

check out the generals & admirals.

There are whispers of a commission to test and review general / flag officers for fitness of service… I hope it’s true.

We need a Lehman for SECNAV.

Expand full comment

MTR's Haircut: Start with a test of actual fitness, as in push ups, pull ups, sit ups and a nice run in the woods.

Expand full comment

I’m good with that also. I will settle for a review of their actions and fitness reports and then personal interviews with the Vice President and the new secretaries of the services.

Expand full comment

No fitness levels for C-Level types (military or civilian). The value of FOGO's is not in their ability to run a certain distance, or do pull-ups. That would be silly. Morbidly obese types should be eliminated, but not requiring high school level fitness tests.

Expand full comment

Sorry Ron but I'm going to have to disagree with you here. Hold every FOGO to the Air Force standards. For a 50 yo male that is currently 20 minutes for 1.5 miles (the minimum) and 10 and a half minutes to max it out. I am significantly beyond 50 years and my power walking speed is right at 5 mph so I can finish 1.5 miles in less that 20 minutes without even breaking into a jog. I don't have a formal exercise regimen but I do the chores around the farm. Again, AF mins for 50 yo's 12 push ups in a minute and 25 sit ups. I'm pretty confident I could do the 12 push ups since I still throw hay up into the barn loft but unsure on the sit ups. Got a small spare tire around the waist. Give me a couple months and I could work it off though. If a FOGO can't meet the AF old man/lady minimums then they should consider retiring for the good of the country.

Expand full comment

Ideally, every FOGO should be able to do what you describe. How many excellent FOGO's would we have lost in WWII if we mandated that level of fitness? What does America gain by firing a significant military asset by imposing an arbitrary fitness level?

If we did implement your suggested standards, we would have to set the effective date ten+ years in the future to allow people to work up to that standard.

Being fit has many benefits, but getting rid of people at what should be the pinnacle of their professional skill level, it seems counterproductive to me. I confess that my opinion may be wrong.

I have some doubts about Trump's ability to select and hire competent people. That includes Generals. I think some of the problems in his first administration were the result of bad personnel choices. Just one example-- Omarosa. She was hired for the White House staff at the beginning of his term, and lasted less than a year. Previous to that she had appeared twice on "The Apprentice" where she had also been fired twice, once for lying if my memory is correct.

Break the administrative state into pieces by declaring that only Congress can pass laws and cannot delegate that responsibility and therefore the entire Code of Federal Regulations CFR is unconstitutional.

Also the new AG has to stand down the FBI which has become a Praetorian Guard. The Hoover building needs to be emptied. No more perp walks etc

Also no more unfunded mandates which is just taxation without representation.

The FBI needs the 5D Solution. Disarm, Disestablish, Disperse, Dismiss, and Deny.

Disarming the FBI sends a clear message that they are not considered law enforcement, and not worthy of being entrusted with arms. Disestablishing the FBI tears the rot out by the roots. There's a culture of playing political police that goes to the very origins of the FBI. The working-level personnel can be dispersed among legitimate law enforcement agencies. Management gets pink-slipped. And ALL of them get denied the privileges in carrying firearms accorded to former legitimate law enforcement personnel.

I don't want to "leave a mark". I want a hole the size of the IVY MIKE H-bomb test. Make an example.

The Constitution grants Congress the sole authority to pass laws, no need to declare it again, just adhere to the Constitution. CFR is necessary, though the regulations cannot have the force of law without Congress explicitly stating so.

Expand full comment

Apologies. Sometimes my reading comprehension is suboptimal. Regards,

Expand full comment

Like in many other areas of life, we don’t actually need a new law to do that. Article I Section 1 of the Constitution clearly states that Congress passes laws, thereby making all executive orders that affect anyone outside the executive branch null and void. SCOTUS has been making very, very small inroads in that regard, but so far they have failed to do their complete duty in this regard.

Those wee hours last night, when Trump announced his win, began a personal release from an evolving dread that in retrospect began, for me, on November 22, 1963. This morning - from where ever, George Washington inserted his wooden false teeth and smiled for the camera; Jefferson said, "well, OK, it's not exactly my cup of tea but I will come along", Hamilton said, "It is about goddamn time!" And Lincoln looked down and repeated,"We must dis-enthrall ourselves...and then we shall save our country." Thank you God; Your Will Be Done. Thank you all who stood up to be counted: my admiration is boundless.

Despite his naive diplomatic antics in the Orient, Teddy Roosevelt raised his fist and shouted, "BULLY!!!"

I'm willing to go old school. The very first federal criminal statute passed by the 1st United States Congress included penalties for larceny, receiving stolen goods, and perjury. 39 lashes, 39 lashes, and one hour in the pillory respectively per count.

I would be in favor of the lash, and stocks/pillory. Especially if all were in the public view. In the late 1700's, early 1800's, execution was a common penalty for what today would be misdemeanors under the criminal code.

I think that Congress controls the funding- As best I can tell, we pay about 75% of the total annual U.N. budget. Ron Paul had introduced a bill (H.R.1146) to get out of the U.N. in every Congressional Session from 1997 through 2011. Like all similar bills, Congress basically ignored it. Congress could certainly take us out of the U.N. and kick the U.N. out of the U.S., but there would be world uproar about it. I am all for getting out the the U.N. and kicking them out of the U.S.. I think most Americans (though not the Marxist/Leftists) would agree with the move.
