The young pay the price because the old are not physically able. I'm in my 70s and even though I am in great physical shape, I could never hump a ruck all day or spend the night in a foxhole, half full of water and be able to walk the next day.
I would gladly take the place of some young kid, but I would be a sea anchor.
I've been working security in Portland. I'm 68 and have some skills and experience. Try to stay in shape. I reckon I've got 15 to 30 seconds full on stamina. Won 3 out of last 4 fights, but dope fiends are not what you call natural athletes. My best move, as a former wrestler I wrap 'em up limpet-like and let them try to shake my 225 lbs. Start whaling when they are tired.
He will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. Isaiah 25:8
OT: Let's have a shout out for that most famous French infantryman: Charles, the Hammer, Martel, who turned back the Moors near Paris at Tours on 10/10 732. Here's to you, big guy. And for giving us your grandson Charlemagne
Agreed. Once the effort to force the Dardanelles with battleships had failed that should have been the end of the campaign. Instead the British doubled down with amphibious landings. .
I think of a lesson my father taught me from his service. If you're the senior person in danger, your job is getting your people to the right place, and be the last one out.
This is entirely keeping with the highest traditions of military service, where a leader goes forth to protect their charges.
I understand your intent and theme, but would like to point out that the linked article was additions to the list. I remember a previous article with several Brigade commanders, senior Mossad, Matkal, Maglan and Shin Bet leaders. this may be a good list for the Army, but my translator seems to think the whole IDF are Major Generals.
My counter meme would be that when metal started hitting meat, a bunch of senior IDF leaders, picked up carbines, and started leading pick-up squads into blocking positions.
IDF ranks do not work like Western ranks. While some people who would be properly considered equivalent to general officers did engage in small unit actions, the translated lists are not reflective of actual duties.
All war is so fucking terrible. I pray the Israelis have the resolve to make this one fast and definitive.
AMEN to that! Served in Nam and that’s ALL we were!! PS> HAPPY BIRTHDAY to we in the US Navy!!
The young pay the price. Rest in peace.

Terrorists will never be able to defeat people like Lt Ben Simon. They will never be able to break Israel.
She was an "edel mensch"
A Warrior
A very brave woman. Brings to mind the quote from the end of The Bridges of Tokyo-Ri, "Where do (they) get such (wo)men?" RIP
That is what A Marine General said at Betio of a Marine killed planting a beach landing flag for the boats to home in on.
Where do we get such men?
They are home grown in Israel. A woman of purpose, of determination. A credit to her parents, and to the IDF.
May her memory be a blessing - and lead a revolution.

Fullbore. RIP.

TBF, it took another 700 years (to 1492) to get the vermin out of Europe.
Not quite. The Turks were at the gates of Vienna in 1683.
Oh, good point. My family is from Spain, we had to leave in 1492 after the moors left and the inquisition started.
And a shout out for King Jan Sobeiski who smashed the Turkish army besieging Vienna. Too bad Gallipoli didn't work out.
Churchill (First Lord of the Admiralty) listened to the First Sea Lord, who listened to no one....
No way the Dardanelles could be attacked via longboats.

She exemplified all - Duty, Honor, Country. Full Bore indeed.

In time of violence, who would read the PowerPoint? In times of true violence, who would make the PowerPoint?
I saw this today on Reddit:

The Finns do it well, also. Hmm. Small country, vicious enemy on your border....
May her memorial be a pile of brass. Full bore.
If I'm ever killed with my own gun, you'll have to beat me with it, because it will be empty, surrounded by brass.
Valhalla received a good one.
A true Valkyrie.
