When you can spend the money to keep a carrier strike group in the Arabian Gulf for nearly two decades straight for no reason real beyond COCOM dick measuring, but can't find petty cash to operate 12 (of 48) small craft, your Navy has problems that are far deeper than mere budget woes.

Whatever happened to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command? Did the Riverines who came to Lake Habbaniya in 2007 live long and prosper, make rank and retire, or was Brown Water Sailoring bad for their careers? They seemed to me to be almost totally reliant on the kindness of 2nd Marine Logistics Group at Taqaddum, who billeted them on Mainside in my LSA rather than Lakeside. They even parked their SURC there.
