I think Milley and his cohorts are the representation of the military becoming political instead of being A-political. The PRC is the biggest threat to the U.S. Whether it's buying up farmland or properties near U.S. military installations, who knows how many members of the PLA are posted to universities, etc. Yes, Milley and the rest of them need to be held accountable for Afghanistan. I was there from 2009-2010 and we took a lot of casualties (KIA/WIA). For a lot of OEF Veterans like myself, the surrender of Afghanistan has brought a lot of bad memories back. I apologize for drifting off the topic at hand. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't 2022 the worst year for recruiting since 1973?
The leadership of the services at the highest levels is rotten down to the core and it sounds like the respective core values of the service branches are hollow. FML.
I won't comment on Milley, but I will absolutely support the good CDR on the PRC, and our apparent lack of response. Oh, we've got plenty of really powerful rhetoric, but the last time I checked, rhetoric won't pierce the hull of a DDG, won't whack a J-20 out of the sky, and won't stop a determined PLA soldier.
I have always thought the real problem with our Navy is poor decision making at all levels, it is as if we are dying by a thousand paper cuts, each being a poor decision. The primary cause is careerism birthed by an all volunteer force. Incidentally it is less than twenty years that the last of the free speaking draftees departed the service. The small, Frequent and seemingly irrelevant poor decisions add up.Closely related to the cause is the expected demise of USNA,
MacArthur was willing to use atomic bombs to stop the PLA.
Throughly Modern Milley is not.
Only 2 more years till Desantis hopefully,
& he's a navy guy ,what's not to like

Most appropriate quote, found on a billboard near a Chinese Space base:
"Without haste, without fear, we conquer the world."
(from The Man Who Loved China by Simon Winchester)

Lovely column.
Graf 5 last line "Afghanistan" or "Ukraine" Typo?
It all started with Nixons one china policy, and Clinton pushing the PRC into the WTO.
