Travel before DTS wasn't all sunshine and roses, especially after the mandated travel cards started. I had to eat a 3-night stay in London once because NAVEUR rec services had a deal with Selfridge's for hotel rooms, where rec services processed the payments from the travelers.
The government card (AMEX at the time) was coded to only allow rental cars, meals, and lodging, which seems sensible, but NAVEUR's swipe terminal was coded as retail. Not wanting to miss my meeting at the embassy and subsequent flight home, I put it on my own card and it got denied on the claim for not being on the government card. A year later when I left the service, still unresolved.
