The most recent to make the attempt AFAIK was Winston Churchill, The History of the English-Speaking Peoples, and there's a guy named James Bennett who wrote ANGLOSPHERISM more recently. As you suggest, there's a reluctance on all sides except the opposition to be completely candid about how interdependent and aligned 5 EYES is on a military and security level. It's not politically advantageous to anyone on Side Anglo to be quite that candid. Rewriting it from a single perspective would be a good book.
Have you pondered how the US policy would have been different and perhaps grossly contradicted your premise if the former guy had retained office? The arcs of history are not preordained.
