Orange Man Bad was mean to NATO by asking the deadbeats to pay their share and telling Germany to not put a Russian gun to its own head with GasPipelines . Oh well, China Joe will get this solved—to PRC’s satisfaction—-as soon as the ChiComs buy enough of Hunter’s art
Poland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Romania, and Bulgaria understand Russia and the threat it represents, so they are doing what they can. Too many Americans just want "badness and ugly" to go away quietly simply because they want it to be so. Sticking your head in the sand is a good way to get your butt shot off.
"Europe has been at peace from major wars for a very long time". What...3 decades since Billy Clinton decided to balkanize Yugoslavia and bomb Belgrade into the stone age? For what...to bust it up into smaller chunks (to NATO-ize someday) which would be easier to deal with in building gas transit pipelines to bypass Russian gas? Both the religious and ethnic strife had simmered for centuries and bubbled up from time to time in massacres committed by all parties against each other; stirring the pot by injecting Al Qaeda (remember Osama Bin Laden's role) into the tensions was right out of the CIA's playbook. Ignoring the "other side" of the story in justifying what we did is as always inexcusable. Are we in the US so incurious about history behind current events that we swallow the media versions which only present one (often distorted) side of the story? Seems so again as with the Ukraine experience.
Everyone wins when India, USA, and Russia join to check and throw out CCP. Russia is after Constantinople, not Kiev. USA should be assisting her in that regard. All the late and post WWII inter-nation agreements are mooted by time and/or practice, NATO especially. But also SACEUR. And the entire US COCOM system requires re-formulation to address contemporary circs.
Commander, in all due respect I'm sure you are aware of the promises that were made which allowed the reunification of East Germany with West Germany; NO NATO INVOLVEMENT IN FORMER EAST BLOC COUNTRIES PERIOD. Of course it was our word of honor which is not worth a damn apparently...about as much as our written "garauntees" which we also tear up unilaterally when it suits us. Imagine were you the Commander of the Black Fleet and your lease on Sevastapol naval base had 20 more years to go and then a neo-nazi band overthrows the gov't of Ukraine with US backing. You lost over a quarter of a million Russian soldiers over the centuries defending this port. Do you think you would allow it to slip from your grip? Imagine you were the successor to a decade of unimaginable poverty which characterized the 90's in Russia during which the West/US was "helping" Russia under Yeltsin. We sent in the Harvard boys to rape the crown jewels of the Soviet industry. We had CIA people at their nuclear weapons storage sites and bioweapons research centers. We did nothing to help the Russian people and everything to help ourselves to their land's riches...which was interrupted by the arrival of President Putin. He reached out to the West to join in a military alliance for the security of the European continent but was rebuffed. He had the hope of friendly relations but they were consistently dashed by our sense of victory and dealing from a position of superiority. How deluded we were. Now we have encircled Russia with NATO and US missiles ...step by step ...up to the Ukraine. We openly supported an coup in 2014 which resulted in neo-nazi military battalions hijack the country at gunpoint. They ravaged the eastern oblasts with their ethnic purges but did not succeed. Resistance sprang up...old Afghan vets from the Soviet days, caches of decomissioned weapons stored in mines, and deniable help from across the border (we would do no less). Do you think that you could tolerate military encroachment on your most vulnerable geography by an alliance that kicks over countries for ships and giggles...all in the name of R2P? What catastrophies have NATO forces wrought in Libya? Afghanistan? Syria? What? Please tell me what good has become of the interventions there. Oh my...the result you have not experienced since you have not lived in through the ocean of immigrants fleeing these countries for the EU. Think of it this way...China overthrows the Mexican government and stations its navy in El Cipres or in the Gulf? And they install medium range missles which are nucleara-capable on the Texas and California borders for defensive purposes? Would you have a right to feel threatened and respond? We shit our pants over Cuba in the 60's for god sakes and saaved the day by taking our Pershings out of Turkey if the Ruskies would leave Cuba! My God man, where is your history?

From what POV do you write this?
"Europe has been at peace from major wars for a very long time". What...3 decades since Billy Clinton decided to balkanize Yugoslavia and bomb Belgrade into the stone age? That wasn't a major war. At best, a series of skirmishes.
100,000 dead is a skirmish? There was no UN authorization for the conflict spearheaded by the US.
I was involved in both Bosnia and Kosovo. Yes, skirmish.
