An island nation, dependent on trade, requires a strong navy to keep the sea lanes open to world trade. Ironically, the stronger our U.S. Navy is, the less likely it is that our boys and girls will have to go to war.
Russia is a threat because it is run by a former communist who is intent on re-establishing the old USSR. China is a threat because it is run by actual communists.

Did Putin or Xi indict their main political opponent? If so that would be terrible.
If you read the Indictment you will see that the only documents TFG was charged with were the documents he lied about not having.
Now, assume that you have taken Top Secret war plans off the Navy base and the CO calls and politely asks you to bring the Top Secret plans back to the base. You say, "Plans? I don't have any plans."
When the CO gets a tip from your pool guy that there are files marked "Top Secret" in the filter shed, and has a search warrant served on you which finds the plans you lied about not having in the bathroom, should you face charges? Would you face charges?
Mitt said it best. “By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others. Mr Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so.”
