I'm in a funk today... Maybe this year.

We don't have a coherent national defense strategy, coherent ppbe alignment, a focused administration, a competent GO/FO/SES cohort.

We either need to decide we have existential competition, or develop a serious diplomatic corps. Then put energy behind our decision.

Fussing around the middle will not work.

Seems like putting the Democrat Adults in charge of diplomacy after the last election has only resulted in:

- heaping abuse and disrespect on our previous Allies (UK, Israel, Saudis, Japan, etc)

- showing our weakness and incoherence to our enemies (Russia, China, Iran, NORK, etc)

Why are Russia and China threats? Have they been holding military exercises off our shores? Did they blow up any of our dams or pipelines?

Expand full comment

No need, they just hold exercises with Cuba and Venezuela while they spy with impunity in their "police stations" and buy off politicians while establishing bases at critical maritime chokepoints.

So glad we don't do that sort of stuff.

I know, that's why it's been called The Great Game in the past. And when equilibrium was broken it erupted in war when one side perceived an advantage.

An island nation, dependent on trade, requires a strong navy to keep the sea lanes open to world trade. Ironically, the stronger our U.S. Navy is, the less likely it is that our boys and girls will have to go to war.

Russia is a threat because it is run by a former communist who is intent on re-establishing the old USSR. China is a threat because it is run by actual communists.

Did Putin or Xi indict their main political opponent? If so that would be terrible.

If you read the Indictment you will see that the only documents TFG was charged with were the documents he lied about not having.

Now, assume that you have taken Top Secret war plans off the Navy base and the CO calls and politely asks you to bring the Top Secret plans back to the base. You say, "Plans? I don't have any plans."

When the CO gets a tip from your pool guy that there are files marked "Top Secret" in the filter shed, and has a search warrant served on you which finds the plans you lied about not having in the bathroom, should you face charges? Would you face charges?

Mitt said it best. “By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others. Mr Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so.”

Too bad we no longer have a major air base in Afghanistan. That would give China and Russia something to think about. How did we lose it?

By invading a nation that had absolutely nothing to do with the Saudi Arabian attack on our country on September 11th.

No country in the world would be stupid enough to invade Afghanistan Mesopotamia Indochina or Russia.
